Caprice is a study in contrasts.  It shifts mood frequently and inexplicably, as if on a whim.  The pianist is thus tasked with executing sudden tempo, style and dynamic changes to mark these rapid and comical shifts in character.

The etude was premiered by Grace Gallagher as part of the Brevard Music Center Piano Etude Project.
