In January 2018, I composed a single-movement piece for piano quintet entitled Mother Earth, mourning the gradual degradation of the natural world.  Months later, I was prompted to compose a full multi-movement work around this work.  The Piano Quintet No. 1 is the result of these efforts.  The original piece was used as the basis for the first movement. The remaining movements consisted of new material altogether, but still attempt to retain the affect of Mother Earth - juxtaposing beauty with stark brutality and anguish.

This first movement was premiered by the Rutgers University New Music Ensemble in April of that same year. A recording of this performance is available below.
