Waltz for One
for orchestra
Composed June 2017 - January 2018
Waltz for One represents my first serious attempt at writing for full orchestra. A lighthearted and satirical piece, it depicts a scene in which a man, driven mad by loneliness, imagines himself dancing with an imaginary partner - a veritable "waltz for one". The music follows his tumultuous moods, ranging from the gaiety of his imagined romance, to the confusion and outrage upon realizing the falsity of his delusions. His emotions reach a boiling point, and he erupts into a frenzy before eventually collapsing from exhaustion.
